Better Together

Re-imagining
Democracy
where you live.

Who are we?

Better Together America is a nation-wide, nonpartisan support network by and for local, regional, and state “Civic Hubs.”  These civic hubs are helping build community resilience and civic capacity, enabling communities across the country to work together to solve their biggest challenges and ensure government institutions and elected leaders are accountable and fairly elected.  By connecting and accelerating these place-based, collective impact efforts across the country, we are empowering communities to reimagine democracy from the ground up.

Our expanding network of civic hubs is supported by a national network of organizations paired with a collaborative and collective funding campaign. We also host a learning community for hub leaders, a resource center, communication amplification services, and a set of shared evaluation measurements.

Case Study

Oakland, California

Organized by our Better Together America Advisor, and Founder of Omni-Win, the Oakland, California Civic Hub is driven by Duncan's work as a seasoned mediator. Duncan's efforts have resulted in a neighborhood-wide, engaged Civic Hub that embodies what it means to be civically engaged on the local level. As founder of a Civic Hub, Duncan has galvanized locals to participate in actions that ultimately have resulted in a better community for all and benefitted how the community interact with each other to design innovate solutions to local issues.

Montrose, Colorado

Our first Citizens’ Assembly, organized by Unify America, brought the community together to identify an important issue to solve. We decided on affordable, quality childcare and worked with city and county officials, childcare providers, Boys and Girls Club, our Rec district, and business leaders to come up with solutions.

From that effort, local volunteers united to make inclusive, collaborative decision-making a permanent part of Montrose by starting a new nonprofit called Unify Montrose to lead this work. We plan to address a new topic every quarter. Our first topic, Main Street Walkability and Off-Main Parking, involved working with the city's Main Street Revitalization program DART. We successfully tested and improved our process and are excited for the next project.
